Kostecki Dubbed the "Cerebral Sailor";
Wins Praise From Whitbread Sailors
AmericaOne tactician John Kostecki is featured in a Jan. 13 article published in the official Web site for the Whitbread Round the World Race for the Volvo Trophy.
In Legs 3 and 4, Kostecki sailed aboard Chessie Racing, which had its best showing in these legs, finishing third in each. The San Fransico-born sailor is due much of the credit, say his competitors and teammates alike.
In the article titled "John Kostecki: The Cerebral Sailor" and written by yachting journalist Stuart Alexander AmericaOne and EF Language skipper Paul Cayard said: "He has an incredible feel for where to put a
boat and make it go fast."
Toshiba navigator Andrew Cape said, "He's one of the best I have
ever sailed with and I would always be happy to sail with him again."
Kostecki is taking a leave from the Whitbread to sail in Key West Race Week, as well as some one-design regattas, but will rejoin Chessie Racing for Leg 8.
