Hi, race fans:

We are on the sixth day of Leg 6, racing boat-to-boat with the Whitbread fleet. I was just looking at EF Language and Toshiba, who are 200 meters away from us at the moment. Since early this morning we have been trading positions with these boats. Great racing after five days! A lot more to go though.

It has been very hot so far this leg. Battling the high temperatures has been our main focus away from racing the boat. Sleeping has been difficult at best.

The wind has been fantastic so far, especially the first few days, where we had over 20 knots of wind the majority of the time. We also have been quite fortunate to have the spinnaker up for most of the leg so far. One of the biggest factors so far to doing well has been avoiding the rain clouds and positioning the boat for each cloud. Sometimes it is impossible to avoid these clouds, which means you park it up while your competitors are cruising at over 10 knots of boat speed. These moments are frustrating!

We have about another day of sailing in the Southern Hemisphere in the southeast trade winds. Tomorrow we expect to see the winds decrease as we approach the Doldrums. Crossing the Doldrums successfully will be our biggest challenge. When we get across, we will encounter the northeast trades and, again, will have good wind for a long period of time.

We have over 3,000 miles more to go, so we have a lot more racing. It should be interesting and close!
