Douglas D. Smith
Director, Head of Business/FinanceDoug Smith has worked closely with AmericaOne skipper Paul Cayard since 1990 on many of Cayard's projects. Most recently Cayard and Smith founded the AmericaOne syndicate.
An avid sailor himself, Smith has raced Olympic-class Star boats since 1973, including participating in two Olympic trials. He has been a member of the Administrative Committee of the Star Class since 1992.
Smith joined Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP as a partner in August, 1997, after 18 years at Brobeck, Phleger & Harrison. Gibson, Dunn is the largest California-based law firm and specializes in representing technology companies, as well as established businesses. Smith represents clients ranging in size from Wells Fargo & Co. and Unocal Corporation to small start-up companies in public offerings, acquisitions and joint ventures. He also represents investment banks, investment funds and private individuals in public offerings, acquisitions, joint ventures and technology licensing transactions. He is director of the Rosewood Stone Group, a private investment fund that focuses on Internet technology companies. Smith led the development of the Brobeck web site in 1994 and its electronic filing capability with the Securities and Exchange Commission in 1993.
Smith received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1979 from Vanderbilt University School of Law, where he was Order of the Coif, and his Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science and Economics in 1976 from Tufts University. Doug and his wife, Jennifer Hughes, have two children, Rebecca and Larkin.
