Chris
Perkins joined AmericaOne
in the fall of '98 as the Chief Financial Officer. For Perkins, a CPA and long-time
member of the St. Francis Yacht Club, the job is a perfect blending of vocation
and avocation. Perkins, 37, is responsible for financial control and reporting
for the syndicate, reporting to Paul Cayard and Bob Billingham and to the Board
of Directors. He oversees the accounting staff.
"Chris has been a great addition to the staff," said Bob Billingham. "He partners
with me in things like day-to-day vendor management and contract writing. He's
a really sharp guy and he has reviewed and improved areas like insurance and
cash flow. One of Chris' recent moves was to negotiate some futures contracts
as a hedge against fluctuations in the New Zealand dollar."
Perkins spent ten years at Ernst and Young as a CPA, followed by another five
years in private industry with Harper Collins and Charles Schwab, before joining
AmericaOne.
He has sailed all his life, starting in the junior program at the San Francisco
Yacht Club and moving on to Laser sailing at the St. Francis where he has been
a member for the past 20 years. He has served on the Board of Directors of the
Club and for three years has been Chairman of the Executive Race Committee of
the Club.
Last year he married Brooke, who is also a sailor and member of the club.
They are both members of the Founders' Club. Perkins races Etchells, is a world
champion in the Knarr Class and shares ownership in the J/35 Major Damage.
If it sails, Perkins likes to race it. He has crewed on J/24's, One Design
48's and Santa Cruz 50's and is currently part of John Kilroy's crew on the
Farr 40 Samba Pa Ti. "I hesitate to call him an excellent amateur sailor,"
notes Billingham " . . . because he's more than that!"
