CHARLES L. NICHOLS
Director of Sales
Chuck Nichols is the Director of Sales for AmericaOne, the St Francis Yacht Club challenge for America's Cup 2000. He is an attorney/businessman with more than 30 years experience managing organizations dealing with complex projects having wide public visibility.
Nichols was the president and a member of the board of directors of the San Diego Super Bowl '98 Host Committee and was responsible for the organization, planning, financing, and management of the Host Committee's activities in preparation for Super Bowl XXXII.
Prior to taking the Super Bowl '98 position, Nichols was the president of America's Cup '95, a position he assumed in 1992, upon taking a leave-of-absence from Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). At America's Cup '95, Nichols was responsible for the overall planning, financing, and management of the 1995 America's Cup competition held in the Pacific Ocean off San Diego.
At SAIC, Nichols was twice on the board of directors and held several positions as an officer of the company from 1970 through 1992, including the post of General Counsel and Corporate Secretary until 1980. As a senior vice president, he later headed the Aerospace Systems Group, and more recently, until assuming the position with the America's Cup organization, he was responsible for the company's congressional and media relations. In 1984 he founded the SAIC Employee Ethics Committee and served as its chairman for four years. He also chaired the steering committee of the Partnership for America's Cup Technology (PACT), a cooperative effort that helped launch the boat design programs of several defense teams during the 1992 America's Cup competition.
Nichols completed his undergraduate studies at Texas A&M University in 1963 where he was designated a Distinguished Military Graduate. He received his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Texas in 1966 and is currently an active member of the California Bar Association.
Nichols is on the Board of Directors of the San Diego Mediation Center and the San Diego Yacht Club. He is on the Board of Trustees of the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center and is Director Emeritus at the Professional Service Council, a Washington D.C. based trade association representing professional and technical service companies.
