Team Member Mike Eldred is a composites and deck hardware expert. Another
member of the San Diego-based Fitzgerald Racing team, Eldred stayed in California
when the sailing crew went to Auckland last winter to support the one-third
scale sailing program and oversee the Fitzgerald Racing shop. Eldred also
has his own company and shop, ME Composites. He fabricates high-tech instrument
wands that go on mastheads. He and Fitzgerald also install kelp-cutter systems
on many sleds and maxis. Eldred is a veteran of both the America3 '92 Cup
winning and '95 women's team campaigns.
Eldred was responsible for the search and evaluation of sites for the team's Long Beach compound and worked with Bob Billingham on getting the sailing base organized and mobilized. He is the Shore Team computer guru with expertise in AutoCAD and Mechanical Desktop, which are the drafting software used by our design team for boat plans. Eldred lives in San Diego with his wife Lisa. He is an avid radio-control model boat racer and enjoys working on his Ford truck. |
