November 6, 1998, BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS --Paul Cayard, America One Skipper and CEO won the Bitter End Yacht Club's popular Pro-Am match race series held November 3-6 in the British Virgin Islands. Although Cayard and America One member, Terry Hutchinson competed on separate teams, both Cayard and Hutchinson's team finished 6-1, with Cayard's only defeat against American sailmaker Ken Read.
In the round robin semi-finals, America One sailing talent on both boats dominated. Hutchinson's team defeated American Peter Isler, while Cayard defeated Russell Coutts. Coutts, 1995 helmsman of Team New Zealand's Black Magic, remains one of the world's top match racers. Cayard went on to defeat fellow team member Hutchinson to win the series.
"I'm excited to have performed well against some great sailors," commented Cayard. "The Bitter End Pro-Am has been an excellent warm-up for the grand prix Virgin Islands International event." Cayard will be joined by America One Tactician John Kostecki in the Virgin Islands Invitational, December 9-13, 1998.
