SAN FRANCISCO, CA, SEPTEMBER 25 - Three's the charm as AmericaOne team members aboard the One Design 48 ("1D48") illbruck-PINTA have preliminarily moved into 3rd place overall with two 3rd place finishes at the St. Francis Yacht Club Big Boat Series. Today's racing featured tight, short courses and starboard roundings that lead to numerous protests and exciting crossings. A hair's breath finish between Leading Edge and PINTA was ruled to be a tie, and points were split between the contenders.
"It was full-on mayhem out there," noted new AmericaOne team member Josh Belsky. Belsky, originally from Rye, New York, is one of four new team members added to the AmericaOne team last week. Belsky is pitman aboard illbruck-PINTA for this regatta. AmericaOne Tactician John Kostecki is Skipper, while AmericaOne Skipper Paul Cayard is joining the PINTA team as Tactician.
"We were over early in the second race -- we were tangling with John Bertrand on Starlight and we both pushed the envelope. But even though we started last, we were able to battle back into third. The short courses created a bottleneck as the classes started each five minutes, but it was fun and exciting. We had 10 boats from different fleets overlapped at one point!"
Belsky added that PINTA's "not far out of the hunt," in this tight competitive class. AmericaOne team member Terry Hutchinson currently leads the pack in first place, helming the 1D48, Windquest. With numerous protest being resolved in other fleets, the results posted below are preliminary and not final.
