AmericaOne SAILORS, CAYARD AND KOSTECKI, JOIN FORCES
ON illbruck-PINTA FOR ST. FRANCIS BIG BOAT SERIES

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, SEPTEMBER 15 - AmericaOne Tactician John Kostecki will be joined once again by AmericaOne Skipper and CEO Paul Cayard aboard the One Design 48 (1D48) illbruck-PINTA at the St. Francis Yacht Club's Big Boat Series. Held on San Francisco Bay from Sept. 24-27, "Big Boat Series" annually attracts the world’s finest sailors to some of the most challenging wind conditions anywhere in the world.

Both Cayard and Kostecki grew up sailing under San Francisco Bay’s Golden Gate. "San Francisco Bay is famous for its unique wind patterns and tidal effects," said Kostecki. "We expect to see some very tough and aggressive racing in this class and local knowledge will be an important ingredient for success." In a switch from their regular AmericaOne roles, Kostecki will be skipper of the illbruck Round the World Challenge team, the first entrant in the Volvo Ocean Race, formerly the Whitbread Race. Cayard joins the illbruck-PINTA team as tactician for this regatta.

illbruck-PINTA has made an extremely strong showing in this highly competitive class, winning their first regatta, the 1998 Newport-Manhattan Series in June. Joined by Cayard in August, illbruck-PINTA finished a close second at the Kenwood Cup, only a few points out of first place despite losing a rudder and missing two entire races.

"We will wrap up illbruck-PINTA’s 1D48 campaign in San Francisco," said Kostecki. "The experience has been invaluable. There is nowhere else we could find the extremely high level of competition we've experienced racing in this class against some of the world's best Whitbread and America's Cup veterans."

Kostecki and Cayard will have plenty of world class competition for their appearance at "Big Boat." New Zealand's America's Cup defender Russell Coutts will sail for owner John Risley on Numbers, along with members of Team New Zealand America's Cup crew. Other America's Cup veterans and competitors will also be aboard the remaining eight-boat 1D48 fleet.

AmericaOne is dedicated to recapturing the America's Cup through a commitment to excellence, utilizing the power of U.S. technology including aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, sail design, naval architecture and structural engineering. Operating since June 1, 1996, the AmericaOne team is comprised of 36 people actively working in design/technology, operations. For more information, please visit our web site at www.ac2000.org.
