Fourth U.S. Challenger Comes Forward

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (June 28, 1996)—A fourth U.S. America's Cup challenger was unveiled Wednesday with the disclosure that San Francisco Yacht Club has challenged the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron for the Auld Mug.

The SFYC effort, named America True: The San Francisco Challenge, is one of the two "mystery" challenges that RNZYS did not identify when it announced its 11 challengers last month. This is the second San Francisco-based challenge, following on the heels of the AmericaOne campaign headed by Jim Clark and Paul Cayard, which was formally announced on June 1.

The America True syndicate is headed by Dawn Riley, who sailed for Bill Koch's America³ Foundation in the 1992 and 1995 Cup defense campaigns.

This report also appeared in Grand Prix Sailor Weekly.
