AmericaOne Announces Team to
Bring Home America's Cup

SAN FRANCISCO, California (June 1, 1996) -- Paul Cayard, skipper of St. Francis Yacht Club's challenge for the America's Cup, today announced the formation of AmericaOne. Chaired by Jim Clark, founder and chairman of Netscape Communications Corporation, AmericaOne is committed to winning back the Cup following New Zealandís 1995 defeat of Dennis Connerís Team Stars & Stripes in San Diego.

Cayard made the announcement during the Brut Cup of San Francisco Match Racing Series, which featured top America's Cup skippers, including New Zealand's Cup winner Russell Coutts.

"The mission for AmericaOne is to win back the America's Cup with American technology and an American commitment to excellence in all levels of the program. Throughout all phases of our challenge we expect AmericaOne to be highly visible here in San Francisco and to demonstrate the finest example of the American competitive spirit," said Cayard.

Cayard announced that veteran America's Cup yacht designer, Bruce Nelson, will lead AmericaOne's design and technology team. John Kostecki, an Olympic silver medalist, has been named tactician. Board members will include: Paul Cayard, Skipper; Jim Clark, Chairman, Netscape Communications Corp.; Craig Fuller, Vice Chairman, Burson-Marsteller; John McCaw, Orca Bay Capital Corporation and Douglas Smith, Partner at Brobeck, Phleger and Harrison.

Cayard also presented AmericaOne's Founding Technology sponsors and suppliers, including Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) and Silicon Graphics, Inc. (SGI).

"I am proud to head a program dedicated to bringing the America's Cup home," said Jim Clark. "The Cup belongs in America. With the launch of AmericaOne, St. Francis Yacht Club, in its quest for the Cup, embarks on a long journey toward Auckland, New Zealand, and the start of America Cup XXX in the year 2000. The Cup represents the height of achievement in sailing in terms of technology, organization, and strategic planning. AmericaOne is well underway with her impressive crew of sailors, technology and business leaders."
