I have returned from Europe having done what I needed to,

I have returned from Europe having done what I needed to, that is qualify the USA for the Olympic Games. I raced in three regattas in Europe: SPA in Holland, The UK Nationals, and the World Championships. The three regattas took place over one month with SPA first and the Worlds last. Each regatta had the top 15 contenders for Sydney participate, I placed fourth in SPA and eleventh in the UK Nationals and a disappointing 25 in the Worlds. It was a result of being there a little long and losing my edge both physically and mentally.

I have picked up the training again with Richard Clarke of Canada currently ranked second in the world, here in San Francisco for the past eight days. It has been a war training with him. I am confident that are training will reap huge rewards our work has generated some new designs for sails and boats. I am getting a new boat from England in the coming weeks.

Today I am leaving for Toronto and the North Americans and two weeks of physical training on the East Coast. Then Richard and I will resume training August 8 to 18 in SF, we spend a lot of our time sailing outside in the ocean to simulate Sydney conditions.

I am excited about my prospects and the fact that family will be with me in Sydney for the games. I plan to leave for Sydney on August 30 and the family takes off on the 14th of September.

All the Best,

Russ
