AmericaOne Sailing Talent Joins Forces With illbruck-PINTA Challenge for the Kenwood Cup

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — JULY 17, 1998 — On June 3, 1998, AmericaOne Tactician John Kostecki, will skipper the 1D48 illbruck-PINTA entry for the Kenwood Cup in Honolulu, Hawa|, August 3-9. Guest crew in the afterguard will include AmericaOne Skipper and Whitbread Race winner Paul Cayard. Kostecki and Cayard will share the helmsman and tactician roles.

Just off of their Whitbread efforts, Cayard aboard EF Language and Kostecki aboard Chessie Racing, are looking forward to sailing together again in the '98 Kenwood Cup. "I'm pleaased that we'll have such a strong and experienced crew for this regatta, and that Paul is able to join us in the afterguard," Kostecki comments. "Paul and I try sail together as often as possible — to improve our teamwork as we work towards AmericaOne's 2000 America's Cup effort. This is a perfect opportunity for the illbruck-PINTA crew to benefit from our joint expertise."

The illbruck Round the World Challenge initiated by the international illbruck Group of companies headquartered in Leverkusen, Germany, is campaigning its 1D48 this summer as it begins preparations for the Volvo Ocean Race 2001-2002. The Volvo Race is the successor event to the Whitbread. illbruck-PINTA team announced two days ago that it has purchased the two Team "EF" Whitbread 60s, which it will use as training boats, starting this winter. It also announced recently that Bruce Farr & Associates, Inc., will design its new Volvo Ocean 60 raceboat.

AmericaOne is dedicated to recapturing the America's Cup through a commitment to excellence, utilizing the power of U.S. technology, including aerodynamics, hydrodynamics, sail design, naval architecture and structural engineering. Operating since June 1, 1996, the AmericaOne team is comprised of thirty-four people actively working in design/technology, operations, sailing, marketing, media and public relations.
