Daily Report, August 21, 1999

The past couple of days of sailing have been pretty good. We have been going through the usual collection of data and testing on USA 49 and have spent on average about seven hours a day sailing on the water. Needless to say the troops are tired, but everybody is focused as time is becoming short before the end of this training session.

As equally as important as the testing, we have had riders with us from a lot of our major sponsors: Ford, Hewlett-Packard, SAIC, Telcordia, United Technologies and Visteon.

To put it into simple terms, without these sponsors I probably would not be sitting here writing this report as the program would probably not exist. The support given to AmericaOne from these companies has been huge. As sailors, we have a huge responsibility to represent each company that is supporting our team in a professional manner. By having our sponsors participating in our testing and training it is a great opportunity to show them our day to day activities as well as to give them a really good look at how their sponsorship is being used within the AmericaOne program.

As our sport continues to develop professionally, I know that it is vital to the survival of the professional sailing team to be exactly that -- "professional". The sponsors need to get good value for their investment and by participating in our operation, I believe that the sponsors come to appreciate and understand how valuable the sponsorship is and that their respective companies do benefit from supporting the America's Cup.

That's all for now. Please keep checking the AmericaOne website for the progress of our team. Thanks again to our sponsors for their support.
