AmericaOne San Pedro Chronicles: Dolphins and Pilot Whales For Company SAN PEDRO, CA - August 11, 1999 - Training has started in San Pedro and will continue until the end of August. Daily Report, August 11, 1999 Though I would prefer to provide you with another chapter in my developing series on "What it's Like on the Inside," my update for the day will be unavoidably brief. A number of past "Daily Updates" have at least alluded to the long hours we are all investing to ensure that AmericaOne will "Bring It Back." Today a confluence of factors allowed us to set a new record by sailing and testing well into the evening. Fortunately our chefs, Mark and Harry, are eternally patient and waited for us until well after dark with their ever-delicious and appreciated spreads. I continue to be impressed by the wisdom Paul and Bob have demonstrated by selecting Long Beach as our training site. Our long days, like today, are often due to the range of conditions we can find here, the perfect alignment of these conditions with our testing needs, and our desire to take advantage of them. As a bonus, we are continually rewarded with marine life interactions. Dolphins playing in our bow wake have become an almost common (though still appreciated) occurrence. Today we were presented with a special surprise, a pod of playful pilot whales! So until next time, when I hope to have a little more time between sailing and my necessary bedtime (lest I be late for our 6:00 AM workout)...
