About The ChallengeDaily Report, July 9, 1999
Once again the progress at the sailing compound today was really productive.
Out on the water on oneAustralia (AUS 31), we had some excellent conditions for calibration this morning. It was very light and drizzly, perfect for some boat speed fine tuning. Also on board we had some of our scientists from United Technologies, and as the breeze filled in, we were able to satisfy a good deal more of their sail and mast evaluations. All valuable data, which will convert to finer specifications further down the road,in the sail shape and mast construction engineering.
On shore the activity on USA 49, our first new boat, is getting her final fitout for launching and sailing. We can't wait to get her into the water! Its an exciting prospect to be so close to the next level of the game, with the new boat nearly ready to go.
All this work and sailing sure makes a guy hungry!! Quite a revelation to be in this part of the world and seeing it rain. It rained hard this morning !" It NEVER rains in California in the summer time!" ....who sang that song ?? Glen Campbell ,,,Don MacLean ??
More to follow...
