AUCKLAND, NZ - February 24, 1999 - Stay tuned to the AmericaOne website as we post reports from the team during its intensive two-month training program in Auckland, New Zealand.
Daily Report, February 24, 1999
It was another great day of MRX match racing for our Congressional and Steinlager Cup team. The team of Curtis Blewitt on the bow, Morgan Trubovich trimming, Sean Clarkson on the mainsheet, John Kostecki calling tactics and Paul Cayard on the helm dominated our day of tune-up matches against Swede, Magnus Holmberg and his young team. The groundwork has been laid for the coming months when our team heads out onto the match racing circuit to take on the worlds best.
We have one big year ahead of us. Today is within a day or two of the moment a year from now of when we hope to be bringing home the America's Cup. The two months we have just spent here in Auckland have taught us many lessons. In my mind the most important thing we will leave with is the knowledge that the conditions here are very tough on a boat and crew. This means we must develop not only the equipment but the team that can survive the Louis Vuitton Series and still be strong to take on the Kiwis in the America's Cup.
Only three more days until the team packs up and heads home.
