AUCKLAND, NZ - February 23, 1999 - Stay tuned to the AmericaOne website as we post reports from the team during its intensive two-month training program in Auckland, New Zealand.
Daily Report, February 23, 1999
We started this day the way we always do, but with a small twist. This morning our 6 am workout was joined by some media videoing and photographing our gym ritual. We had breakfast at the compound for everyone -- sponsors, media and the team and had our usual 10 am dock start.
According to Pork Chop (Morgan Trubovitch) this morning's reported winds were the lightest in two months and the forecast was for a light sea breeze. We met up with the Swiss on the race course and the breeze slowly built from four to 10 knots during the day. We had a bunch of short one-mile, one-leg races and twice as many practice starts. All with good results I might add. I would like to say that we just outsailed them -- well we did -- but our boat also has a big speed advantage.
All kidding aside, we really are thankful to have the Swiss out here to practice with. Sailing by ourselves would not be as valuable. But now we're done with that and the old girl has come out of the water for two days. Today was the last day of practice racing for the old OneAustralia.
The remainder of our last week here we will be testing by ourselves.
