Daily Report, February 21, 1999
One advantage to being in New Zealand in February is that it is the middle of summer and today was a fine example of great weather. With guests from Ford, HP, Bellcore, SAIC as well as some American media visitors we all headed out to sea from our Compound near downtown Auckland. Our mission was a day of racing against the Swiss Fast 2000 team. With a mix of our racing team and guests aboard our training boat, we towed out to the race course and waited for wind.
This was one of the few occasions that we had to wait for the wind since we have been in Auckland. After an hour or so a light sea breeze began to develop and we were straight into some matches against the bright yellow Swiss boat.
At the end of the day we all returned ashore for a great meal in our own "Opera House" waterfront restaurant. This was a nice time to have a meal and to get to meet some of our sponsors, media and the Swiss sailors. Today being the 21st of February marks a year exactly to the second race of the upcoming America's Cup. We have a lot to accomplish in the coming year and with the foundation that has been built we can now visualize our future. Winning is on our minds!
Tomorrow there is a day off for the sailors.
Good bye from NZ,
Morgan Larson
