Daily Report, January 24, 1999
By Josh Belsky
Well, after an awesome and well deserved day off, the crew of the mighty AmericaOne was back at again at the crack of dawn this morning. Six a.m. gym call followed by a 9:45 dock start put us back out on the water in a crisp 18 knot southeasterly.
After some early practice, we once again met America True on the starting line for an afternoon of some super tight match racing. By the time the first gun sounded, the breeze had moderated to a more subtle 7 or 8 knots under a cloudless Kiwi sky. We were accompanied by dozens of Hammerhead sharks which were visible from the surface, as the waters in the Hauraki had taken on the colors of the Carribean.
The starts were exciting and the racing ended in one occasion with a photo finish. I think that both teams are benefiting greatly from the racing we're doing. I see our crew really beginning to perform like a Swiss watch. We're adapting well to one another's styles and our crew work is improving every day. Each day, we seem to be getting a little more out of our boat from a speed standpoint. Life is good.
As Ralfie said the other day, "smile you guys, you've got a pretty nice office." Well, it's hard to top our boy Ralfie, so with that I'll sign off. Have a good Monday!!
Later,
Josh
