AmericaOne New Zealand Chronicles:
About The Challenge
Daily Report - Friday, December 24, 1999 -
Christmas Eve - 1999
The AmericaOne team celebrated Christmas last night with a party at the Auckland Museum in the Domain (the park downtown). The museum has just gone through a major renovation and provided a nice atmosphere for our gathering. Even Santa stopped by for a visit to reassure the little ones he knew where in the world to visit them on Christmas day. Santa's bag was filled with gifts for the children compliments of the AmericaOne Founders'- the children were thrilled. Yesterday was the longest day of the year down here. In conjunction with the full moon, the earth being the closest its been to the sun in the last 133 years, and a clear night provided us with a spectacular back drop to the party.
The last few days we have been sharing the race course with the other syndicates trying to get more testing in before the Christmas break. Our "break" consists of Christmas day and the day after known as Boxing Day, a major holiday in Australia and New Zealand. Everyone is travelling outside of Auckland to celebrate. The popular destinations seem to be (north) them Bay of Islands, (south) Rotorua, (west) Piha, and (east) the Coromandel. Two days isn't a long time to spend with family and friends, but we're here to win the America's Cup. We can vacation afterwards.
Everyone at AmericaOne hopes that all of our founders, sponsors, friends and supporters are able to spend some time with their loved ones over the holidays. Merry Christmas!
