AmericaOne New Zealand Chronicles:
Seven Days Until Christmas

Daily Report - Thursday, December 17, 1999 -

Auckland, NZ

With Christmas rapidly approaching the AmericaOne team is working hard to make sure the New Year is the season to be jolly. The sailing team is back to our non-racing schedule each day starting with a 6:00 AM workout and dockstart by 10 AM for two boat testing. At 6:00 PM we return to the dock, take the boats out of the water, followed by dinner and some well deserved rest. Long days. Out on the water, the two boat testing is going well and the team is gaining valuable information and skills. Today, a group of 30 media were invited out on the spectator boat to watch us practice. I think we may have startled them a bit when both boats did “fly-byes” splashing seawater onto the aft deck. After the spectator boat left to return to the base we worked on pre-starts followed by a practice race as we do at the end of each day before returning to the dock. All this with one thought in mind. Winning. There are seven days left until Christmas and 15 days until the beginning of the Semi-Finals. Our goal is to get better and faster each day as we work towards the ultimate goal, bringing the Cup to the San Francisco Bay. We wish all of our sponsors, supporters and fans the happiest of holidays.
