AmericaOne New Zealand Chronicles:
Another Successful Day

Daily Report - Wednesday, October 20, 1999 -

Auckland, NZ

Greetings race fans. Today was another successful day for the AmericaOne Team. We had a bye for the morning race so we were able to sleep in a little bit, until 6:30 AM! The pace this morning was quite relaxing compared to the early starts we have been having. Even though we didn't have to race the first race, we were out there before the first start. Sailing back and forth on the race course. Examining the competition. This team is hungry, you can tell by the intensity. There are a few other teams that look really good, but we are here to win.

After we sized up the morning races, we raced the French on the Blue 5 course. My job for today was to be in one of the chase boats up to windward of the start. From this position I have a radio dialogue running with our other weather boats to discuss the best starting point on the race course.

Well, against the French our game plan worked. We liked the left and after a nearly even start of the line, the Team defended the left and moved their way out from the French. USA 49 showed good speed today and stretched away from the French for a comfortable victory. So far so good. We will know more tomorrow morning after lining up against the undefeated Prada Challenge from Italy. Should be exciting. Stay tuned.
