City / Country: St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, USA Commodore: Carol P. Hindels Syndicate: Team Caribbean Syndicate Head: Michael Bornn Boat(s): Stars & Stripes '92; plan to build two boats Skipper: Peter Holmberg Designer: Pedrick Yacht Designs Builder: N/A Key Personnel: Steve Morton, director of operations Sponsor(s): Topa Equities Ltd. Comments: This is the first America's Cup involvement for the club and Peter Holmberg, who is ranked in the top ten of the World Match-Race Rankings, and won a silver medal in the 1988 Olympics in the Finn class. Holmberg and Bornn believe the unique Caribbean setting will attract the necessary funding to mount a competitive challenge. The syndicate hopes to build two new boats. In November, 1996, the group purchased Dennis Conner's Stars & Stripes '92 for use in promoting the challenge throughout the islands, and to serve as a training platform for crew members. David Pedrick was on the team that designed 1987 winner Stars & Stripes, a 12-meter, but has had less success with the new IACC-type boats. Web Site: http://www.usvi.net/america/
